Birds (43)
Shooting birds is very challenging. It takes high magnification lenses, fast shutter speeds, a solid tripod, a good deal of luck and quite a bit of patience.
Black and White (56)
One of the things that I have found is that if you want an image to look old or antique, You should shoot with an old camera. The older glass gives the image a different look than modern ultra sharp lenses. I like to do this with Black and White. I like to use a Petri 7S for this. It's a lot of fun to play around with. It has a unique look. Especially on foggy days. This camera is my first choice to take out in snowstorms or bad weather. I also use other cameras for B&W. But, If it looks like an image from the fifties, It was probably done with the Petri and Tri-X. A few examples are: Tracks to Nowhere, Abandoned train and Buried. Available as Fine Art prints or stock images.
Blue Morning Glory photos (59)
These images were made using Professional Slide film with the intent of using them for editorial stock. They can also be purchased as Fine Art Prints. Films used for these images were Fuji Velvia 50, Provia 100F and Kodak E100VS. The flowers that have a purpleish tone were done with E100VS. The Morning Glorys in the other categories were done using print film. Available as Fine Art prints or stock images.

Fog Photos (18)
These are photos that were taken in heavy fog. I did some experimenting with different films and film speeds with these and also used a Tiffen 80A Blue filter on some of the photos. The films were Fuji Superia 1600 and Fuji Provia 100F. The grain from the high speed 1600 film seems to enhance the fog somewhat. The high speed film has course grain and the slower slide film has very fine grain. The real difference in the 2 films can be seen when making enlargements.
Food (16)
Food photography. A friend that I met on Flickr.com suggested that I try shooting food. It's something that I had previously considered. So, I decided to give it a shot. These are the results of my efforts.
Graffiti on Trains (134)
These are shots of Graffiti on Trains (Railroad Cars). Although I don't support vandalism of any kind, you have to admit that whether you love it or hate it, that this is a form of self expression and therefore an art form and some of these are actually pretty cool. One of the things I like about Graffiti is that it is art for arts sake. The people who did these more than likely didn't reap any rewards for what they did and didn't expect to. They did it for the shear joy of creating art or being creative. Sort of like when cave men started painting in caves.
Hand Colored Black & White (4)
These prints are hand colored using markers. They are then scanned professionally to make reprints. Reprints do not have the blue edged borders that you see on the web site. The images that are posted on my web site are slide images of the prints themselves. I don't have a flatbed scanner. So, I had to rephotograph the prints and scan the slides. Professional reprints are available.

Landsdale Bike Night was great! There was a good turn out of people. Also, Lots of Bikes, Vendors, Bands and great food. I was traveling light and left my flash at home. My plan was to arrive early and get some photos before dark. However, I got a late start leaving Pottstown and by the time I arrived in Landsdale and found a place to park, it was getting close to dark. I managed to get some photos after dark with available light from the streetlights.

The second camera body was a Contax Aria with a 50mm F1.7 lens, Contax TLA360 flash and Kodak Elite Chrome 100 film pushed 2 stops to ISO 400. Both flashes were under exposed by 2/3 stop. I shot with TTL flash on both cameras and in Aperture Priority Auto exposure. There were also a few shots done without flash using the Provia 400X and available light from the stage.
Miscellaneous Flowers (23)
These are flowers that I haven't been able to identify. If you know the names of any of these, feel free to send me an e-mail and let me know. I have several slide boxes of unidentified flowers. Rather than let them sit in their boxes unused. This is what I've decided to do.

Photography Equipment (33)
Photos of my photography equipment. Any gear that is photography related. Cameras, bags, Film, Light meter, etc., etc.
Photos at Night (21)
Photography can be very challenging at night for several reasons, camera meters can be way off in their exposure readings at night and a little guesswork is usually necessary. Also most films are designed for use in daylight or with flash. Lab machines that develop C-41 process print films consider night time exposures to be abnormal and when they autocorrect they usually over compensate the exposure resulting in an incorrect print. Shooting slide film illiminates this problem. Slide film comes out the way the photographer shoots it. I shoot either slide film or black and white at night. I try to avoid C-41 process films for night photography. I've been shooting quite a bit at night lately. I did some Neon Signs recently and long exposures of car headlights from a highway overpass. I really enjoy shooting at night and I have a long list of things that I want to shoot.

Pottstown Fireworks '08 (24)
Shooting the 2008 Pottstown fireworks in Manatawny park this year was both challenging and interesting. I was invited by the crew that set off the show to get a close up view of the display which was a new and interesting challenge. I say that because the constant changes in lighting as the canisters were firing made my meter in my camera useless. Also, the autofocus in my handheld camera had a little trouble focusing in such low lighting conditions. I learned rather quickly that it would lock on silhouettes with no problem. So, I tried to concentrate on backlit silhouettes. I shot with 2 cameras. One was handheld to move around quickly and grab silhouettes and the 2nd camera was mounted on a tripod for long exposure shots. Unfortunately, we had rain right up until the fireworks were set off. That meant that the display was covered the entire time until being lit to keep the fuses from getting wet. Another problem was low lying fog and heavy smoke. The crew did a fine job. Enjoy !

These are a few shots of Red Morning Glories. I was experimenting with films, flash and filters at the time. So, some are done with flash and some with available light. The films were Kodak Elite chrome 100 and E100VS. I found that the Elite Chrome 100 worked better for shooting Red flowers than the E100VS. E100VS tended to oversaturate the reds.
